UFO Puts Portugal on Military Alert

The Portuguese press has announced that the airforce is on alert since dozens of people saw a UFO on Tuesday. The newspaper Correio da Manha reports that "Military radar surveillance has been increased and F16 planes are ready for take-off." Meanwhile, the UFO sighted in South Devon in the U.K. interests the media, but not the military.

The Portuguese UFO is described as a silent, luminous object, giving off white smoke. Paulo Lagarto, of the national air traffic control authority, Navegacao Aerea de Portugal (NAV), says, "The control tower in Oporto (north) detected a flying object which had been observed 25 minutes earlier in Montijo and Beja (south)." Geologist José Fernando Monteiro says the UFO wasn't a meteorite, since a meteorite would have moved much faster and made a lot of noise. The European Space Agency says it wasn't a satellite.

In South Devon, in the U.K., the switchboard at the Herald Express was swamped with calls from people who saw a cigar- shaped UFO. Colleen Smith and Paul James write that Nick Borne snapped a photo of it with his cellphone. He says, "I was just panning around with the [cellphone] when the UFO popped up and I took the pictures. I'm still quite skeptical about it all. At the end of the day it was something I could not identify. It was stationary and conical shaped with a dome in the middle. I've no idea what it was."

Retired British Aerospace engineer Roy Dutton tracked the object for 20 minutes through a high-powered telescope. He says, "At first I thought it was just an airship but I could see it clearly and there were no signs of control or propulsion. There were no features whatsoever. It was jet black. It was just like a great big party balloon?I have never seen anything like this before. I know from my experience of aircraft that it was flying at about 10,000 ft and it was very big, at least the size of a Jumbo jet. After about 15 minutes it stopped. Then it just wobbled and ascended to probably double the altitude, drifting away quite quickly...What concerned me was that it was in the flight path often used by aircraft approaching Exeter airport. My first guess was that it was some sort of experimental balloon, in which case the authorities should be investigating."

Helen McGregor and Hayley Tucker also saw the UFO. Helen says, "We all just stood there. Nobody said anything because we didn't know what it was. It looked like a kite but it was really, really high. It was just a long black tube. We ran back to tell my auntie but when we looked again it had gone."

Laura Lamont was with a crowd of about 10 people, all of whom saw it. She says, "It was really amazing. We were all stuck for words. During the time we were watching it a red helicopter went across and there was a low-flying jet which went passed. They were nothing like this. It was so high up in the sky and it just seemed to have stopped there, dead. Lots of others were pointing up to it too."

Witness Simon Wills says, "It was long and black with a shiny texture." Gary Close watched it through high magnification binoculars and says, "The end facing me had a yellow tinge. If it was an escaped balloon I could not see any wire or rigging attached. It was very peculiar. It's difficult to say how big it was."

On this week's Dreamland, Whitley probes conspiracies. First, he talks with Donald Bain, who explored the CIA mind control of supermodel Candy Jones. A recent massive release of CIA mind control documents has confirmed that they even extended their activities to children. For subscribers, Whitley interviews Judith K. Moore, who says she was one of these victims.
