When I published Nature's End in 1985, I was laughed at by environmental reporters at a press conference in Washington. When Art Bell and I published Superstorm in 1999, Matt Lauer scoffed at us on the Today Show. When the movie based on it came out, even the director said, to defend himself, that it was probably an overstatement.

It is an odd and chilling feeling to see Hurricane Sandy called a superstorm. It's going to go down in history as Superstorm Sandy. I didn't coin the word 'superstorm' but the Coming Global Superstorm, certainly brought it into the language. So many people want so badly to believe either that there is nothing unusual about the weather, or at least that climate change is part of a cycle that we cannot do anything to affect. As I write this, there is a phenomenal story on Unknowncountry.com that discusses the terrible weather presently sweeping the whole western world, literally from California to Poland.
