There’s a joke in a Woody Allen movie about a man who kicked a TV set. The next time he went into an elevator, he heard an ominous voice say as the doors closed, ‘are you that guy who kicked the TV?’ The elevator had apparently been waiting for him.

Whitley and I just celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary. It's kind of hard to believe we've been together so long: I realized that we've been married to each other for over half our lives. We've had our fights (who hasn't?), but we're not tired of each other yet.

Despite the kindle, nook and ipad, Whitley and I still like to read paper, and we buy three newspapers every day--the Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times and the New York Times--and read even MORE of them on weekends, when we add the weekend Wall Street Journal to the mix.
