I'm working on my bachelor's in nursing right now. In one of my classes I learned that most people are reading at around the 5th or 6th grade level. I had to write an educational packet and adjust the readability to that level. It's actually very difficult to do that if you are used to writing at a college level, and when you see what the final draft is like...I laughed at what my packet looked like, and I'm still in a slight disbelief that this is the level of reading people require to understand things. | ||

I was reading that article until about 1/4 of the way through it I saw some things I did not like. I scrolled all the way to the bottom to see if there were any references, but there are none. addressing susi's conformity issue above. Yes, it probably is like that. However, there was a time in this country when teachers believed hard science over the Christian religion version of the world. That has changed. One of my older students said her son (who is in public school) was in science class and his teacher taught them about evolution. At the end of her lecture she said, "but nobody believes that". Granted, I have problems with evolution being exclusive of soul/spirit, only about the body, but geez. That's science. They study things that can be tested emperically. Of course, that is a problem area too. But, as I believe that Christians are the most spiritually illiterate of the religious world, I have a hard time buying their versions as well. Certainly over the past 20 plus years now, the quality of education in this country has diminished. Just the basics. At my college there are 5 levels of Math to catch GED and high school graduates up to college level math. And more sections are added every year. Same with English. About 1 in 10 of my students read and write on a 4th grade level. There are remedial courses for that as well. And more sections are added every year. Wow, what the hell happened? | ||
