When I was 11, going on 12, this amazing song came out.

It's always been a favorite, and still is today.

It had such a haunting sound, and, at least for me, the tree things that made this song so special were interesting tempo change on the verses, the excellent drumming, and that chiming guitar!

At the time, we just thought it was a "new" English Group, part of the British Invasion (Thank You, Beatles!!!). Few of us knew at first that it was actually a band from Northern Ireland!

Of course, all us old hippies eventually came to know that it's Van the Man on lead vocals.

Now, after all these decades, I have just now learned that the lead guitar on this song (studio version) was none other than then-session guitarist JIMMY PAGE!

Boy, would that have made a GREAT question for the "RPM" category of Trivial Pursuit Baby Boomers' Edition!

WHOA! Here it comes......

The song tells a story of two soldiers who met during the second world war and became lovers. Alison mentions in a French magazine Têtu that she had read a letter of a man writing to his lover on the day of the other's death anniversary. They wished they could live together after the end of the war, but unfortunately one of them perished in combat.

**I deleted my original post (#7015) about this, because, DUH, I had forgotten to post the Porcupine Tree song with the creepy cover. My post doesn't make it's point without the song and the image of the album cover and it's resemblance to Michelle's description of what was done to her.

Strangeness today..........

A little while ago, I logged onto Pandora, and the first song to play was by "Porcupine Tree".

The first thing that struck me was that it played them!!!

The second thing was the creepy album cover.

**Here is the song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-nzMnMl1CA

The third thing was that the image on the cover immediately reminded me of what I had just seen on TV last night, which was this interview with Michelle Knight:

(go to 0:41 and listen to her description of how she was tied up by Ariel Castro!!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWOiGoZSUzg

Sometimes, my mind is blown beyond description. Since I had only recently had my ears opened to Porcupine Tree, I have still not gotten very far through their catalog, and had not seen this album cover.

What are the odds that I would watch that excerpt from the interview with Michelle, and then come to the computer and "happen" to decide to log on to Pandora, (for no apparent reason, while I was in the middle of reading other things online), and the first song to play would be that one, with the image of the cover of that album?

AND, the lyrics are pretty strange, but even stranger in the context of the Michelle story.

WEIRD. Beyond weird.

(The full interview with Michelle will be on Dr. Phil this afternoon. I rarely watch him, but I will be recording this interview.)

Anyway, I find it an incredible coincidence that this happened today, and it makes me wonder if Castro was a Porcupine Tree fan???

Creeps me out.

Anyway, yes, Mama, definitely CHILLS, with two weird coincidences, both involving Porcupine Tree and torture and mind control. How does that stuff happen?

And....CSNY, "Deja Vu" is a masterpiece, and creepy in its own way! Appropriate!

.

I've listened to that song 4 times since I found it this afternoon.

How amazing is that song, that singer, and the incredible way it touches the heart????

I may not understand, and I may not know "the truth", and there are many times I just "don't believe", or get mad at "God".....

Hmmmmmm.

Well, I have to say I am pretty disappointed with that concert (above).

Oh, well, maybe it's just my mood....but it seems that they were all mostly just phoning it in.

I think Elton did a good job, and he was in good voice.

Same for Eric Clapton, and Eric and Mark......yet still, seemed lackluster.

I enjoyed Paul's performance, but it still seemed only half-effort.

OH WELL.....

Sorry I was away SW. Rush is my #1 fave band of all time.

I first saw them in 1990, I think, the Presto tour. I've seen them a couple of times since.

Between Peart's lyrics and their music, I can't think of a band that, especially with only 3 people in it, makes better music.

I can't tell you the hours I spent learning Peart's drum parts, then Geddy's bass parts, and Alex's guitar work.

If you haven't seen the Beyond the LIghted Stage documentary yet, I'd recommend it.

Mama, I REALLY enjoyed "The Beatles - 20th Century Greats"! Fascinating!

--------------------------

Mike..........I really wish I had been able to see Rush in concert. (Of course, there are LOTS of bands/artists I wish I could have seen; still, I'm grateful for all the ones I HAVE seen!)

Yes, I did see "Beyond the Lighted Stage", but it was on VH1 Classics, and I think their broadcasts of concerts are edited.....not certain.

I think I will watch it again, on utube!

This is a really well-done video (especially considering it was done by a kid) done to one of my favorite Rush songs:

To Mike2, and any other Rush fans:

I just watched, for the first time, the full video of the induction of Rush into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.....an excellent example of what a huge and truly faithful and rabid fan base can accomplish!

I think that Alex's acceptance speech was one of the most PERFECT EVER! When he first began his speech, I thought, "please don't be lame!".....

But is was EPIC!

And then, the FF's "in character and in costume" intro of "Temple oF Syrinx", and the seamless segue' into Rush's performance of "Tom Sawyer"......and, well.......

And now, I am moving on to sample portions of "Clockwork Angels"......

Well, good grief! I am slipping. I forgot to post the link to the Rush induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in my post above!

(Not that you folks couldn't have found it on your own, if you were inclined.....)

Anyway.....here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R5RwyGyZ0Q

Well worth the watch, all the way through!

But even if you don't watch the whole thing, and even if one is not a Rush fan, Alex's speech is not to be missed!!

allen, that was one helluva playlist!!!! LOVED every song!

It would be hard to pick a favorite from your list of songs.

I won't comment on each song (although I certainly COULD, because each song impressed me/touched me)....so, only these comments for now........

"Rhapsody In Blue" has profound meaning for me, as I surmise it does for you and others (Mama?) here. What a priceless piece of music! The memories I have around that piece (from several different points in time) are VIVID.

I LOVED the Neil Finn video! Just loved it!

Thank you for posting so much fantastic music.

Because of the release of "Clockwork Angels", I am on another of my RUSH kicks.........

This is a FANTASTIC interview, by a really great interviewer. (Love his interviews!)

There is a more recent one, but this one is SO, SO good, IMO.

Hope you Rush fans enjoy it!
