Buddie, You asked to recall 1st slow dance tune. I always remember this one and I was young. But there are others, I just always like this song...I was happy to find it. The video behind it is nice but I was just a young teen when I remember it. The live version of the song I found but the sound was really off and muffly. I had to use this one to get the good sound of the song. Hmmm... first slow dance was this. I was a sophomore at Roswell High School. Since both photographers for the yearbook had dates, I was recruited to take pictures at the Jr/Sr prom. I think the theme was Colour My World, they played it like 5 or 6 times that night. Since I didn't have a date, took pics and was able to dance with some of the "older" girls. Buddie, what a great way to walk down memory lane, and remember the soundtracks to our lives!!!! My first slow dance doesn't really count, in terms of what we usually think of as a "first slow dance", because it was with my Father, in 1965, at a Christmas party at a private "club". I had just turned 13, and was allowed to attend my first "party" at a school friend's house. I had a mad crush on one of two brothers, who were identical twins. The brother I had the crush on was a good dancer, both slow and fast, and a really good kisser! (This was only the second boy I had kissed!!) To this day, I can still remember the way his kiss felt, and how good he smelled, and I can even remember the way the cool concrete of the patio felt on my feet on that HOT day. These dances were the kind where you were asked to bring your own records. I took a number of my Beatles records. As I sat with my girl friend along the sides of the dance floor, an incredibly cute boy (who, with his baby face, cherub lips, big brown eyes and Beatle haircut, looked for all the world like Paul McCartney) came over with a buddy of his, and they sat down, one on either side of us girls. The cutie pie then asked me if I wanted to dance. After we danced a couple of fast dances, and sat down to rest, he asked me if I wanted to dance with him for the next slow dance. I said yes, but that I wanted to dance to a certain song from the Revolver album. So,we went and requested it of the teacher who was spinning the records. Believe it or not, I actually asked the teacher to please handle my album with care! (I was raised that way, thank goodness!) OMG, Mama!!!!???? Have you seen the Depp version of AIW? I have not seen it yet. I'm kind of afraid to see it, even thought I am fascinated. But OMG! That SONG!!!!! AND THAT VID!!! Criminey!!! And can someone please tell me what the creature is at 2:31????? Good God. I used to have recurring nightmares about creatures like that when I was a kid. Is it the "hookah-smoking catterpillar"? OK, fine. I will rent the video. But I don't think I can tolerate it in 3-D. First, due to vertigo problems and vision problems, I "can't do" 3-D. Secondly, I don't have a 3-D TV. And third, I don't think I would be able to keep my sanity from seeing it in 3D. But, really, more than that, I am just not willing to risk an attack of vertigo. But anyway......I am not at all surprised that you would post that video/bring up this film, on this particular night/morning! Yet another casualty to the times and the life of a rock and roll band. I guess we will never really know the truth about his death. Loved your story about the "older girls"!!! chesserw, I just checked out your profile, and went to your blog. Life is so interesting and amazing. Your recommendation of the movie "The Peaceful Warrior" stood right out!!!. I bought the book a long time ago, I think in the late 90s. I found it in a sale bin at B&N, and fell for the faint way the descriptions on the jacket, as well as the original artwork on the jacket, reminded me of Castaneda's early books. I tried several times to read it, and never was able to get or stay interested. I don't really remember now why. I finally gave it away to the library. I will check out the movie. Thank you, Mama. I understand what you mean about "as much as it's allowed". I understand it on more than one level. Yes, music is slippery. It CAN get by them....but, sadly, sometimes it can be used by them, as well. Slippery, indeed. Regardless.....it's one of the few joys in life that there is just no way I will let any fear of ill manipulation push me away from. Even though my intense reactions to music have been a "vulnerability" for me, in some serious ways, from a very early age......the joy is worth it. And I don't mind you one bit. I will wait to see if you find the other one from "Alice".....and, perhaps I will just go into denial about what I have learned about "Alice in Wonderland" programming! We had a home made dance party in my friends barn..the music was what ever 45s we could find.. we were all just a group of friends on summer holiday.. we put names in a hat and whichever name you got was the person you danced with..for the slow dances the guys drew the names..this guy had a crush on me and switched names until he got mine..he was cute but I didn't much like him I liked his cousin.. If you run Google earth and look at what is still left of the air force base, and take the longest runway that runs SW to NE and go about 5 miles SW you will see the what use to be the farm/ranch I grew up on. Another one of my often dream scenarios is along the south shore of lake Pontchartrain from when I lived over in New Orleans. I spent so much time from the end of Elysian Fields along the seawall to west end, etc. Anyway folks were gathered there and for some reason Charlie Sheen was dressed in a dark conservative suit and was yakking at me as we walked along the seawall...I left him at west end near a place called the point. Walked back to the place I was at and a young child was hungry. I said there a Burger King nearby. Then a white bird landed on a column that was near us it was about 3 feet high and white. The bird looked like a seagull but its face was younger and the beak a little different. The boy wanted to pet the bird and they won't usually let you but this bird let the child stroke ts feathers and it was lovely...I was at peace with it and wondered if I could pet the bird as well but I woke up.
