Sorry to contradict, but the trivia nerd and concert head in me cannot let it pass...... While it is debated who were the first major rock groups to use lasers in concert, most sources cite The Who as the pioneers. For certain, both The Who and Zeppelin, and several other groups, used lasers before ELO did. The first light show I ever saw in concert, was Blue Oyster Cult, in 1976. The next one with lasers was Yes, in 1977. Then, it was ELO, in 1978, during their "Out of the Blue" tour, with the UFO. I'm just sayin.......  "In the end, only kindness matters." | ||

Yes, even Pink Floyd used laser prior to ELO in the early seventies. The Blue tour in 78 was the peak of ELO and laser use was as much if not more the reason many attended the show for the laser display alone. The flying hamburger/spaceship/ufo and laser placements made it a logistical nightmare. Not all venues had it, but most did. They were used at both the shows I attended for this tour. Main reason I went actually. They were so indiscriminately used that regulations were put in place to restrict them to "protect" the concert-goers. They were bouncing them off mirrors out into the audience. I haven't seen footage with them really fired up, this is Wembley but that's outside too. You got any? | ||

Mama, I loved the Corea/McFerrin song!!!!! SO loved Corea/RTF, and McFerrin is SO unique! And, of course, I love REM to pieces, as well! You might, or might not, remember that I posted (at least, I think I did.....) that I got to do a review of the Ft. Worth performance during the "OOTB" tour, which was published in the newspaper I was working for at the time! I still have it, of course, as well as the ticket stubs! The concert was a "peak experience"!! My second most favorite memory of him sharing songs with me, was another time, on a warm spring day in 1967, when we went for a week-end visit. He seemed more eager than ever, from the moment we entered his house, to get me over to the stereo! As usual, he had me sit down, stuck the headphones on me, and put on an LP. This was the MASTERPIECE he played for me!!!! Now, aside from the obvious, what made this particular introduction even more special, was a couple of factors: I was a hopeless Beatlemaniac, and following ANY Beatles' release, sing or album, I was nearly always on the steps of the record store (which back then, was a small store with a "listening booth"!), within a day or so of release, ready to spend my allowance on the newest Beatles' offering! For some reason, the timing was just right, and I had NOT heard the album yet. Well, I was so excited I cried with joy! And he was so thrilled to be playing it for me for the first time, HE almost cried! Also, he had just gotten a new Bang & Olufsen stereo system at the time. Great memories.......
