Love Santana... I came across this one today and thought of you. I think it had to do with the beach and being tied to another person as this video will show... Interesting lyrics too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEvE_04x-xI ...“Fear is the Thief of Dreams”...

There's this "new brand" of music, I call it night club music for the Ecstasy crowd, but it appears to be growing in popularity with the younger generation. Finally having some time to check all the Faces out. This one in particular I kept seeing on Whitley and Hoagland's FaceBook, so I requested. It was not what I was expecting! LOL... At the top of her page: Mari Geiger-Howiler Open your mind for the Miracles. You are ONe with everything. Your Heart is your Source of INternal Light. LOVe & Awareness radiates out from the Core of your Heart energizing every cell of our body & DNA. When U center back at your Core, U realize that there is only ONE of us here. Then you experience Bliss, Beauty & Truth that we call LOVe. To knOw self you need not to search, Miracles are already withIN you. Can't beat that with an ugly stick! http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1282819323 (Message edited by ManyMansions on May 27, 2010) ...“Fear is the Thief of Dreams”...

The following are album compendiums of mine, profiling one of my favorite musical groups, the Cocteau Twins. 1984, TREASURE ****/***** Speaking of which, I treasure this album. It has been played hundreds of times over the years. Oneiric songstress Elizabeth Frasor's operatic voice is the main instrument here. “Domino,” the CD's ender, is a fine capstone, beautifully transitional, multi-temperamental. On “Persephone,” Frasor shows a rare punkish, grungy side, albeit passive-aggressive in tone; it's a bad-girl rock song that sticks out on the album like a suckable thumb. “Pandora,” is reverie-inducing; airy, echoey, ultra-feminine, and as lulling as being gently carried by waves down a stream, at repose atop an air-mattress. With “Lorelei” the track that immediately seized my attention the first time I heard it: the lilting rhythm evokes images of one skipping merrily through an estival meadow, as without a care in the world. 1986, VICTORIALAND *****/***** C'mon, now. With songs called “Lazy Calm,” “Fluffy Tufts,” and “Little Spacey,” how can you not step away from this album feeling completely pacified and rejuvenated from your otherwise stressful existence? Victorialand is on my Top Ten List of Favorite Albums of all time. I can't get enough of it. The album, unlike the other releases, is a full-length composition of movements, in my opinion. That is to say, it's best listened to in its entirety as one complete piece. The music is lush, downy, pillowy, silky, fluffy, mellow, serene, calming, relaxing, and numinous. (More laidback, easy-going adjectives are welcome.) “Lazy Calm” is the most powerful in this way – you find yourself drifting... drifting... drifting... far...far...away. Victorialand is Cocteau Twins' greatest achievement and is musical escapism perfected. It's also psychologically very healing. 1990, HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS ***/***** As with the follow-up album, Four-Calendar Cafe, the Cocteau Twins' 1990 release is more mainstream than the band's earlier – somewhat experimental, avant-garde – recordings. Heaven Or Las Vegas has a distinct commercial gloss to its songs. It feels packaged, commercially engineered. Frasor's once unintelligible lyrics have now given way to semi-coherent vocals, sung in detectable English, replete with psychedelic, occasionally blatantly neologistic song titles. This album is a good intro to this Scottish trio, likely because it's perhaps their most accessible to date. With “Cherry-coloured Funk” nicely setting the mood for the entire FM-ish CD. 1993, FOUR-CALENDAR CAFE ***/***** Cocteau Twins released this album on a new record label (their years with 4AD were their greatest) and their music, although still being instantly recognizable, by this point had lost its alternative, arbitrary feel for more structured, pop-oriented pieces. Still, the 10 tracks, true to the trio's trademark sound, remain emollient and firmamental in nature, however polished they are. “My Truth” is especially dreamy. Unlike the tracks on Treasure, Four-Calendar Cafe's songs are all chiselled and precise enough to hypothetically find radio-play. This is not vintage Cocteau Twins by any means, and is likely to be accepted more by those unfamiliar with the group than by hardcore fans. 1995, MILK AND KISSES ****/***** Cocteau Twins return to their roots with Milk And Kisses, and thus go out on a high note. (They would disband circa 1997.) The album is a sister to 1984's Treasure. Frasor is back to singing periodic nonsense, and we love it. Does she sing in her own language, you may wonder? According to 1997's “All Music Guide,” “she sings words according to their sound, not their meaning.” We also learn that the band's name is derived from an early Simple Minds' song, themselves Scottish as well. All the tracks on this album are pure mesmerizing consonance, but “Half-gifts” is my favorite: a repetitious vocal, whispery and ethereal. Elizabeth Frasor has such a pretty, angelic voice, doesn't she? Give “Half-gifts” a listen and see what I mean. |

That was amazing...how do they do that? When I was little before I learned to play piano myself I would visit my Grandmother's neighbor that was a classical pianist. I would carry a kaleidoscope with my teddy and sit under her baby grand piano for hours as she played. For awhile I was back there, thank you. man in, I was born and raised in Macon, Ga...came to New Orleans in my early 20's. Anyway from a very young age I always wanted to go to the "Indian Mounds"...my relatives were always concerned because I would become very upset and spoke weird and ..well, it was strange. I was so drawn to the place...knew the area like the palm of my hand. Have many pictures all through my life of me there. Mama got cancer in 1999 and the last place we walked together was around and up to the mounds. My attraction to the place was strange. Ever heard of it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocmulgee_National_Monument (Message edited by mama_shine on June 09, 2010) I must create a system, or be enslaved by another man's. ~William Blake

HI Mama Shine, Any more detailed stories about the mounds? What do you mean talking weird? Different language? I had a very strange encounter next to an indian mound on the campus at LSU. They have recently dated those to about 3000bc. Way older than they thought. I'm going to bed, catch up with you in the next day or two. |

Thanks Mama Shine. Wonder how David Gilmour teamed up with Crosby and Nash? I'm guessing you know that Graham Nash was in the Hollies. Looks like that might be him playing acoustic guitar on the left. |

My fav of theirs is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1KtScrqtbc Yeah, I'm a sentimental old fool God give me the grace to accept the things that I cannot change. And grant unto me the power to change the things that I cannot accept.

Threatened to sing this one for a Sunday Morning Service at a Southern Baptist church I was working at. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fA_owKnG08&feature=related Probably the reason, I wasn't there long. Ya think? God give me the grace to accept the things that I cannot change. And grant unto me the power to change the things that I cannot accept.

Chesser, I like both those songs. You are too modest, I bet you carry a tune just fine. I play classical piano and Rachmaninoff is one of my favorites. I love music based on classical themes. I'm a sentimental fool as well. All By Myself...Eric Carmen The verse borrows very heavily from the second movement (Adagio Sostenuto) of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Opus 18, which Carmen believed was in the public domain. Having found it was not, only after the record had been issued, Carmen had to come to an agreement with the Rachmaninoff estate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQAT0Ln6ggc I must create a system, or be enslaved by another man's. ~William Blake

"Current Events" have got me hearing this song in my head. It's just too damn bad that one cannot find the original video on the net. It was incredible, and featured Kirk Douglas as Satan. The Garden of Allah "The song tells the sad story of the Devil becoming confounded by what the world has become. It's too hot and polluted and reminds him too much of home. The line between good and evil has become so thin that most people don't know the difference any more and it's putting him out of a job. He waxes nostalgic to a young, power hungry, man about the good old days of Hollywood, and the fun he used to have at the Garden of Allah (hotel), when folks knew how to have a good time. He decides to go out with style and appear as an expert witness at a high profile trial and spends some time detailing how the statistics can be used to prove any side of an argument." Today I made an appearance downtown - I am an expert witness because I say I am - And I said gentlemen, and I use that world loosely I will testify for you, I'm a gun for hire I'm a saint, I'm a liar Because there are no facts, there is no truth Just data to be manipulated I can get you any result you like What's it worth to you? Because there is no wrong, there is no right And I sleep very well at night No shame, no solution, no remorse, no retribution Just people selling t-shirts Just opportunity to participate in the pathetic little circus And winning, winning, winning Lyrics "In the end, only kindness matters."

I think Neil Young wrote that song. A song off of my favorite Elton John album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_yc231bMIk and Sting's version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8cYBvzU0-Y&feature=related |
