HeHe Well, I definitely Identify with those two songs, though by and large im not a big radiohead fan. It's all about the lyrics, SiStEr! I've been feeling weird lately....bad....more like myself than I have in a while. Sonny: Do you think we were all created for a purpose? Id like to think so. [looks at his hand] Denser alloy. My father gave it to me. I think he wanted me to kill you. -I Robot -2004

And now, for something completely different! Yeah, I know, I've posted it before. But I guess there will always be a part of me who still hopes for an innocent man! Some people stay far away from the door If there's a chance of it opening up They hear a voice in the hall outside And hope that it just passes by Some people live with the fear of a touch And the anger of having been a fool They will not listen to anyone So nobody tells them a lie I know you're only protecting yourself I know you're thinking of somebody else Someone who hurt you But I'm not above Making up for the love You've been denying you could ever feel I'm not above doing anything To restore your faith if I can Some people see through the eyes of the old Before they ever get a look at the young I'm only willing to hear you cry Because I am an innocent man I am an innocent man Oh yes I am Some people say they will never believe Another promise they hear in the dark Because they only remember too well They heard somebody tell them before Some people sleep all alone every night Instead of taking a lover to bed Some people find that it's easier to hate Than to hurt anymore I know you don't want to hear what I say I know you're gonna keep turning away But I've been there And if I can survive, I can keep you alive I'm not above going through it again I've not above being cool for a while If you're cruel to me I'll understand Some people run from a possible fight Some people figure they can never win And although this is a fight I can lose The accused is an innocent man I am an innocent man Oh yes I am An innocent man You know you only hurt yourself out of spite I guess you'd rather be a martyr tonight That's your decision But I'm not below Anybody I know If there's a chance of resurrecting a love I'm not above going back to the start To find out where the heartache began Some people hope for a miracle cure Some people just accept the world as it is But I'm not willing to lay down and die Because I am an innocent man I am an innocent man Oh yes I am An innocent man A girl can dream, can't she? I periodically write an album review, and here is a short and sweet one which I'd like to share with the board. Read it. Enjoy it. Be moved to buy the album. Finally, feel indebted to me for the rest of your days. I'll accept nothing less. Artist: Deep Forest Album: Comparsa (1997) ***** French musicians, Eric Mouquet and Michael Sanchez, comprise Deep Forest. Their first and self-titled album that was released in 1992 included a scattering of African chants throughout and showed signs of where the duo really wanted to go with their sound, although the album still comes across a little too dance-driven by 'Comparsa''s standards. Nevertheless, it was commercially recognized and was nominated for the Best World Music Album at the '93 Grammy Awards, even though the album doesn't come close to capturing what 'Comparsa' would. The soothing "Sweet Lullaby" was, admittedly, the best track on that first release, which featured Baka Pygmy chants. (For those fond of pygmy vocals, I recommend branching out and giving Zap Mama a listen to). Then came 1995's 'Boheme,' which was a step up in the right direction, as far as ethnic electronica is concerned, the duo's sound becoming less audience-conscious and more arboreal, and this time with a different set of chants, that of Hungarian and Gypsy, leaving behind the African chants of their debut album. With 1998's 'Comparsa,' Deep Forest's third release, the group hit their peak, and the album is the capstone, or canopy, in the group's discography. It is so vintage "deep forest," so bosky, you can almost envision the sight of bush rope. This time around the group went with Spanish chants and sounds. There is not one blemish on the entire album. The opening track, "Noonday Sun," kicks off the album on a high note, an uptempo, festive, felicitating, 'wahoo!' collective romp, that makes you want to prance about (it is right up there with the title track, jig 6, for being downright jovial and fun). "Noonday Sun" is perhaps Deep Forest's most exhilarating and animated song ever made, and so full of cheer. It also encompasses the spirit of the entire convivial mood of the album. (Exactly what we need more of, in a musical world mostly composed of dirges, wailing and lamenting.) Apparently, the duo didn't notice a good thing when they had one, for after 'Comparsa,' the group did an inexplicable about-face, and abandoned their trademark-sounding boondocks for a more discotheque sound, with their 2002 release, 'Music Detected,' a letdown album that is accosting, aggressively beat-oriented, and utterly indistinct (it doesn't sound like Deep Forest at all). The group went way off track with 'Music Detected,' leaving their roots, what had made them so unique, for what is nothing more than an inessential descent in the Deep Forest canon. Whereas, the group's first three albums are quite the contrary – their sound here is original, transporting, and dateless. My three favorite tracks on 'Comparsa' are the hymn-like "Green And Blue," the hum-inducing "Deep Weather," and the final recording, "Media Luna," a sultry and hypnotizing male-female duet passionately and seductively sung by Syrian and Spanish singers Abed Azrei and Ana Torroja; by the tone, at least, a mutual confession of one another's love for each other. By the end of the song it's as if the man and woman reach vocalized communion. "Forest Power" is good also, a jumping tribal chant that takes place out among a glade and that is for flexible limbs only – another one of those saltatory tracks on the album. Both members later went their separate ways, Mouquet creating the group Dao Dezi, and Sanchez producing two solo albums, 'Windows' and 'Hieroglyphs,' the one on 'Comparsa''s album cover, branded on the butterfly wing, being a peace symbol. 'Comparsa' is Deep Forest at its best. The album was their highest achievement. It's just too bad Mouquet and Sanchez didn't evolve on this sound instead of discarding it altogether. |

OK, you've gotta listen to mine, too!!! Boy, you are gonna keep me busy! Guess this is a case of "be careful what you ask for"!!! Just a quick comment on one of the artists in the "tear-rolling" songs... Antony and The Johnsons....... Someone here introduced me to him a while back....the song, "Hope There's Someone". He is so incredibly unique, and gets me deep in the heart. "In the end, only kindness matters."

My goodness, who the heck are you, inquest? Where did you come from? You have the soul of an old hippie! Whoah I had not laughed like this for a while... Thank you! Well, I discovered music 10 years ago and followed my heart.. It brought me to these tunes, and other artistic activities! I am glad that you like this music, because many people do not let their heart go on with what they are listening to. They just follow what is on the radio..AND IT SADLY NOT A MATTER OF AGE!! I am discovering classical music, which sounds to me like 'flying music'; there is something really ALIEN in classical music.. By the way, the Jeff Beck Group sounds really PERFECT to me.. This piano at the end...whoah I have chills! Please post more.. |

Guess this is a case of "be careful what you ask for"!!! > Indeed... Antony and The Johnsons > I cannot listen to this track without crying, there is soooo much pain & suffering in this track... I heard it for the first time in a TV show.. I do not remember the name but it was about a police girl who had a Guardian Angel with her... |

Three of a Perfect Pair She is susceptible He is impossible They have their cross to share Three of a perfect pair... He has his contradicting views She has her cyclothymic moods They make a study in despair Three of a perfect pair... Did you like "Sufficiently Breathless" that I posted above? Well, I wanted to tell you the following: I liked it but it was 'slow' and I preferred the 'Three of a perfect Pair'... I am really attached to the NOTES, the MELODY... as I decided to look at its lyrics.. Watching multiples of people pass me by Look through the windows, through the houses Hey Mr. Policeman, can you point the way Oh, with your hand gun Heed and the puppy and the space below Don't you understand 'em Hearing and watching all the city sounds On the street where we live Just before reading your post I painted a canvas. at the end, I had a stop at my window (second floor) to have a look at my street... I like it... I live in the Geneva side where the crime rate is quite high... Always much noise! There were 3 policemen arresting a 20 years old drug dealer, quite beating him. Your song touched me it was really accurate! We all made of sky... |

Thanks Inquest! That song is one of my all-time favorites! Israel Kamakawiwo called a friend late at night and asked to be taken to the recording studio. He sat down and in one take, he sang and recorded this beautiful piece, then went home. Not long afterward, he died. What inspired him to blend the two songs the way he did, we'll never know, but certainly he was gifted with a profound sense of beauty and the impulse to follow it! This song was being discussed in the witness thread and it took me awhile to find it. I know it seems to be written about a lost love. Then again, it is inspiring and uplifting and offers hope to whatever you would like to apply it to. I KNOW YOU"RE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere, somewhere I know I'll find you somehow And somehow I'll return again to you. The mist is lifting slowly, I can see the way ahead And I've left behind the empty streets That once inspired my life And the strength of the emotion Is like thunder in the air 'Cos the promise that we made each other Haunts me to the end. I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere, somewhere I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere you can hear my voice. I know I'll find you somehow, Somehow, somehow. I know I'll find you somehow And somehow I'll return again to you. The secret of your beauty And the mystery of your soul I've been searching for in everyone I meet And the times I've been mistaken It's impossible to say And the grass is growing Underneath our feet. I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere, somewhere I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere you can hear my voice. I know I'll find you somehow, Somehow, somehow. I know I'll find you somehow And somehow I'll return again to you. The words that I remember From my childhood still are true That there's none so blind As those who will not see And to those who lack the courage And say it's dangerous to try Well they just don't know That love eternal will not be denied. I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere, somewhere I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere you can hear my voice. I know I'll find you somehow, Somehow, somehow. I know I'll find you somehow And somehow I'll return again to you. Yes, I know it's going to happen, I can feel you getting near And soon we'll be returning To the fountain of our youth And, if you wake up wondering In the darkness, I'll be there. My arms will close around you And protect you with the truth. I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere, somewhere I know you're out there somewhere, Somewhere you can hear my voice. I know I'll find you somehow, Somehow, somehow. I know I'll find you somehow And somehow I'll return again to you. man, I did thank you and I am still enjoying your offerings. I deleted the post because I had posted a song that really wasn't good quality sound. I must create a system, or be enslaved by another man's. ~William Blake

I just noticed this headline and thought that since Krystal Gale Potter began this thread with lyrics from Elliott Smith, the article should be mentioned here, too: Elliott Smith Reissues Cause Outrage Among Loyal Fans. Here's what the article has to say: Kill Rock Stars will reissue Elliott Smith's 'Roman Candle' and 'From a Basement on the Hill' on April 6, adding two more of Smith's albums to its catalog. However, the releases are causing consternation among some fans of the late Smith, who died in 2003 at age 34 from a stab wound to his chest. The highly influential singer-songwriter's old studio cohort, Larry Crane -- who is also the archivist for Smith's estate -- has remastered 'Roman Candle,' which was originally self-recorded by Smith and released on Portland's Cavity Search Records in 1994. "I'm getting pretty much bashed around there on message boards for something nobody's heard," Crane tells Spinner. "Some people are like, 'Oh my god, how can you do that?' I'm not smashing it and flat-lining it like a Metallica record." Still, Crane knew from the beginning of this project that he was reworking a sacred recording. "My first thought was, 'Am I doing the right thing?'" Crane says. "I said to my girlfriend, 'My god, should I be doing this?' She said, 'Are you making it sound better?' I said, 'I guess.' She said, 'How can that be wrong?'" Actually, remastering isn't an accurate description of what Crane has done. Unlike 'From a Basement on the Hill,' which was mastered before its posthumous release in 2004 and is reissued as-is, 'Roman Candle' was never mastered in the first place. "I really felt that the album, some of the guitar squeaks when he was changing chords -- he used really cheap mics on the record -- some sounds are really jarring," Crane says. "I was very timid at first, but the more I listened and altered the volume on those squeaks a tiny bit; you can still hear them -- they kind of punctuate the phrases and such -- but all of a sudden the guitar playing just became more clear. I know it's going to sound different to some people, but I cannot imagine that they'd have a problem with what we've done." |

One of my favorite musicians within Electronica is the subdued Patrick O'Hearn. As his profile mentions, O'Hearn is both a bassist and a synthesist, and one-time member of a band called Missing Persons. He left the group to pursue a solo career, and, since his 1985 debut album “Ancient Dreams,” the self-effacing soloist has released at least six exceptional CDs (on top of his Best Of records). O'Hearn was a pleasant find when I discovered his passive sound a few years ago, requesting to listen to a CD of his inside a used-record shop. His alternately mellow and semi-moody electronic compositions have been around over 20 years and yet I had never heard of him, proving once again that there's a vast world of extraordinary music out there beyond the AM and FM dial. One simply has to go about in search of it. O'Hearn's instrumentals are low-key, sometimes dreamy, occasionally brooding. As it is often said, there's music for all occasions, and O'Hearn's CDs are best played amid physical darkness and when feeling laid-back and internal. Put on some sun-glasses while you're at it, and go further inside the artist's shadowy musical world. (For example, “Trust” makes a great bed-time soporific.) Although I enjoy each of his half-dozen or so releases, the following six tracks are my favorites: “Ancient Dreams” “Desire” “Devil's Lake” “Espana” “Forever The Optimist” “Portobello Locks” |
