*passes* Well see, let's say I want to post a link for "the real slim shady" by eminem on youtube. (and sometimes this is a gamble but it usually works) I would go to google, type in "the real slim shady eminem youtube" and it generally comes right up with the link to the song, so i just copy and paste that. Well, duh.....I am really starting to get thick as a brick. It is really starting to scare me. I had gotten "better" in that regard for quite a while. Anyway, yeah, I should have thought of that. "In the end, only kindness matters."

Ahhhh that metallica album reminds me of my first days on the net. I used to listen to that album all night long...so much so that (though i cant read music or play a guitar) i was able to learn through hearing, the song "nothing else matters", and play a pretty good portion of it on the guitar. That was the first metallica album i ever listened to...mind you this was around 95-96, after it'd been out quite a while. Between Metallica, Joan Osborne, and Sublime, that pretty much made up every night of my life. I'd stay up all night long talking on the very first "chat room" i ever chatted on...I just thought it was the greatest thing in the world to sit for hours and talk with people around the world....the internet was the most amazing thing to me in those days....in those days I was not fortwynt, I was "godboy".....here is the very first chat room i ever talked in....of course in those days chat rooms were more like message boards, it wasnt till later they became more like Instant Message format type of thing...you used to have to post, then keep refreshing till you saw a respond...much like this. talked in a room called "teen scene"....long since abandoned. I'm a huge Sublime fan, you might have guessed that from my user name. I put a youtube video up of me doing the song "Badfish" but I realized I screwed up the lyrics so I took it down, I still have my rendition of "creep" up by radiohead, that is my big Karoke number, but on the vid I play the guitar with it.. and I just turned 50. That's ok Brad Nowell would be forty now...man I wish and Bob marley were still around!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WptwYh5vy2c George Bush, he may lie, steal, cheat, mame, kill, commit fraud, bomb, ignore crucial intelligence, and run the country into the ground, but darn it, he'll keep his suit and tie on!!

Yes he does I have not listened to Pete Gabriel in ages..these lyrics tell me he's on the right track..least I think so More than this More Than This I woke up and the world outside was dark All so quiet before the dawn Opened up the door and walked outside The ground was cold I walked until I couldnt walk anymore To a place Id never been There was something stirring in the air In front of me, I could see More than this More than this So much more than this There is something else there When all that you had has all gone And more than this I stand Feeling so connected And Im all there Right next to you It started when I saw the ship go down I saw them struggle in the sea And suddenly the picture disappears In front of me Now were busy making all our busy plans On foundations built to last But nothing fades as fast as the future And nothing clings like the past, until we can see More than this More than this So much more than this There is something out there More than this Its coming through And more than this I stand alone and so connected And Im all there Right next to you Oh then its alright When with every day another bit falls away Oh but its still alright, alright, alright And like words together we can make some sense Much more than this Way beyond imagination Much more than this Beyond the stars With my head so full So full of fractured pictures And Im all there Right next to you So much more than this There is something else there When all that you had has all gone And more than this Im alone Feeling so connected And Im all there right next to you More than this More than this More than this |

Triumph (by Devin Townsend) Calling, it's calling, I can't stay here ...Knowing there's no higher Going, I've gone for many years... ...Going makes me tired. And they said it was this and they said... But it's... Call for me Jesus, I'm waiting here Knowing I'm a liar Knowing I've known more than half my share... Knowing bade this triumph ...and they said it was this ...and they said it was that But it's... WHAT?!?! Hooray for Dr. Young Hooray for earth born and son Hooray the time time has come... We vanish once again One word - Collective Mankind - CONNECTED Never going to die, we're always gonna live forever... ever... Every day With my skies of grey. In my fields of green... I've been all I've been Only for the ego in me Hide from the apocalypse around. A friend introduced me to this artist today, and I particularly liked this song. Since the artist himself is bi-polar, I dedicate the song to graciesmom. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdNO9Qa5rzI skip to 1:22 if you don't want to hear them ramble. Wheel gull spin and glide... you've got no place to hide 'Cause you don't need one All along the lee shore shells lie scattered in my sin Winking up like shining eyes at me, from the sea Here is one like sunrise older than you know It's still lying there where some careless wave Forgot it long ago When I awoke this morning Dove beneath my floating home Down below her graceful side In the turning tide To watch the sea fish roam And there I heard a story From the sailors of the Sandra Marie There's another isle a days' run away from here It's empty and free From here to Venezuela nothing more to see Than a hundred thousand islands Flung like jewels upon the sea For you and me Sunset smells of dinner Women are calling at me to end my tales But perhaps I'll see you the next quiet place I furl my sails http://www.soundclick.com/paulferland

WOW! Thanks for sharing that, Paul! I read the lyrics before I watched the video, and as I read them, I was thinking, "This is VERY 'David Crosby'-like!" Then I clicked on the video link, and, voila! Enjoyed the rambling, as well! CSN (and Y) are still one of my top 10 favorites! "In the end, only kindness matters."

Yes, David has an amazing voice. I think they still hold up well today. I don't know if this has been posted here. It's a song I want to learn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=037uSAIahho He deals the cards as a meditation And those he plays never suspect He doesnt play for the money he wins He doesnt play for the respect He deals the cards to find the answer The sacred geometry of chance The hidden law of probable outcome The numbers lead a dance I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier I know that the clubs are weapons of war I know that diamonds mean money for this art But thats not the shape of my heart He may play the jack of diamonds He may lay the queen of spades He may conceal a king in his hand While the memory of it fades I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier I know that the clubs are weapons of war I know that diamonds mean money for this art But thats not the shape of my heart Thats not the shape, the shape of my heart And if I told you that I loved you Youd maybe think theres something wrong Im not a man of too many faces The mask I wear is one Those who speak know nothing And find out to their cost Like those who curse their luck in too many places And those who smile are lost I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier I know that the clubs are weapons of war I know that diamonds mean money for this art But thats not the shape of my heart Thats not the shape of my heart http://www.soundclick.com/paulferland

This is for Nancy Lyon! HANDS If I could tell the world just one thing It would be that we're all OK And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful And useless in times like these I won't be made useless I won't be idle with despair I will gather myself around my faith For light does the darkness most fear My hands are small, I know But they're not yours, they are my own But they're not yours, they are my own And I am never broken Poverty stole your golden shoes It didn't steal your laughter And heartache came to visit me But I knew it wasn't ever after We'll fight, not out of spite For someone must stand up for what's right 'Cause where there's a man who has no voice There ours shall go singing My hands are small I know But they're not yours, they are my own But they're not yours, they are my own And I am never broken In the end only kindness matters In the end only kindness matters I will get down on my knees, and I will pray I will get down on my knees, and I will pray I will get down on my knees, and I will pray My hands are small I know But they're not yours, they are my own But they're not yours, they are my own And I am never broken We are never broken We are God's eyes God's hands God's mind We are God's eyes God's hands God's heart We are God's eyes God's hands God's eyes We are God's hands We are God's hands (by Jewel)

Oh certainly SW...certainly. I indeed chose to use chemical means to help me escape a life of frayed nerves and high social anxiety...and there were certainly no shortage of folks willing to help me in that particular endeavor. Only problem is that now, without those substances, I typically have a rough time mustering the resolve to rise above those old feelings...literally having to force myself into situations that make me uncomfortable...I have become quite proficient in this, but the feelings are still there though I may be good at keeping a good poker face. As I mentioned on the "R.I.P." thread about Michael Jackson, I have had this song on my mind today, relative to Michael's life and career. Even though it's not one of his songs, I dedicate it to his memory, and hope he no longer feels anything like this. Hero of the Day Mamma, they try and break me. The window burns to light the way back home A light that warms no matter where they've gone They're off to find the hero of the day But what if they should fall by someone's wicked way? Still the window burns, time so slowly turns Someone there is sighing Keepers of the flames, do you feel your names? Do you hear your babies crying? Mama they try and break me Still they try and break me 'Scuse me while I tend to how I feel These things return to me that still seem real Now deservingly this easy chair But the rocking's stopped by wheels of despair Don't want your aid But the fist I've made for years can't hold or feel No, I'm not all me So please excuse me while I tend to how I feel But now the dreams and waking screams that ever last through the night So build the wall behind it crawl and hide until it's light Can you hear your babies crying now? Still the window burns Time so slowly turns And someone there is sighing Keepers of the flames, can't you feel your names? Can't you hear your babies crying? But now the dreams and waking screams that ever last the night So build a wall behind it crawl And hide until it's light So can't you hear your babies crying now? Mama they try and break me Mama they try and break me Mama they try and break me Mama they try mama they try Mama they try and break me Mama they try and break me Mama they try and break me Mama they try and break me Mama they try and break me Mama they try and break me Mama they try Mama they try "In the end, only kindness matters."

OMG, I did not know she had done a cover of this song!!!!! Of course I like the original Henley version better, but Lisa's version is just too appropriate. I make my living off the evening news Just give me something-something I can use People love it when you lose They love dirty laundry Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear Come and whisper in my ear Give us dirty laundry Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em all around We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde Comes on at five She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye It's interesting when people die- Give us dirty laundry Can we film the operation? Is the head dead yet? You know, the boys in the newsroom Got a running bet Get the widow on the set! We need dirty laundry You don't really need to find out what's going on You don't really want to know just how far it's gone Just leave well enough alone Eat your dirty laundry Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're stiff Kick em all around Dirty little secrets Dirty little lies We got our dirty little fingers in everybody's pie We love to cut you down to size We love dirty laundry We can do the innuendo We can dance and sing When its said and done we havent told you a thing We all know that crap is king Give us dirty laundry! Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down Kick em when they're up Kick em when they're down "In the end, only kindness matters."

Golden Momenta Now if all my golden moments Could be rolled into one They would shine just like the sun For a Summer day And after it was over We could have it back again With credit to the editor For striking out the rain (very clean) And all it really needed Was the proper point of view No one's gonna bring me down No one's gonna stop me now Now I gathered up my sorrows And I sold them all for gold And I gathered up the gold And I threw it all away It all went for a good time and a song (come on) The laughter was like music It did float my soul along for awhile And all it really needed Was the proper point of view No one's gonna reach me here No one's gonna know I'm gone You may think I must be crazy And I guess you must be right But I know the way I feel today is out of sight I do not trust my senses To remember your name Without corrective lenses Things are never twice the same anyway And all it really needed Was the proper point of view No one's gonna bring me down No one's gonna stop me now No one's gonna reach me here No one's gonna know I'm gone "In the end, only kindness matters."

Why does it feel like night today? Something in here's not right today. Why am I so uptight today? Paranoia's all I got left I don't know what stressed me first Or how the pressure was fed But I know just what it feels like To have a voice in the back of my head It's like a face that I hold inside A face that awakes when I close my eyes A face watches every time I lie A face that laughs every time I fall (And watches everything) So I know that when it's time to sink or swim That the face inside is hearing me Right underneath my skin It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back It's like a whirlwind inside of my head It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin I know I've got a face in me Points out all my mistakes to me You've got a face on the inside too and Your paranoia's probably worse I don't know what set me off first but I know what I can't stand Everybody acts like the fact of the matter is I can't add up to what you can but Everybody has a face that they hold inside A face that awakes when I close my eyes A face watches every time they lie A face that laughs every time they fall (And watches everything) So you know that when it's time to sink or swim That the face inside is watching you too Right inside your skin Chorus The face inside is right beneath your skin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD3-CRrYTbI "I watch how the moon sits in the sky on a dark night, shining with the light from the sun, but the sun doesnt give the light to the moon, assuming the moon's gonna owe it one..."

I watch how the moon sits in the sky On a dark night shining with the light from the sun The sun doesn't give light to the moon Assuming the moon's gonna owe it one It makes me think of how you act to me You do favors then rapidly just turn around and start asking me about Things that you want back from me I'm sick of the tension, sick of the hunger Sick of you acting like I owe you this Find another place to feed your greed While I find a place to rest I want to be in another place I hate when you say you don't understand I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy A place for my head Maybe someday I'll be just like you, and Step on people like you do and Run away all the people I thought I knew I remember back then who you were You used to be calm, used to be strong Used to be generous, but you should've known That you'd wear out your welcome Now you see how quiet it is, all alone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM5oRJMu2X0 "I watch how the moon sits in the sky on a dark night, shining with the light from the sun, but the sun doesnt give the light to the moon, assuming the moon's gonna owe it one..."

I post this for fortwynt...... First, I want to say... I have been through 3...yes, I said THREE...copies ON VINYL....of the "Pyramid" album. Unfortunately, unlike several other albums of which I have bought multiple copies, I did not save the original copy, with the original insert with the lyrics. I cannot believe I threw the original (or at least, the insert) away. The very last verse (or is is a "bridge"?), is all over the internet as being one set of words, which I am CERTAIN is incorrect. I have been completely anal retentive about lyrics, all my life. So, I cannot believe (and until I can be proved wrong) that I have "mis-remembered" the lyrics. I am posting what I originally learned. In my opinion, it is much more appropriate to the context and subject of the song; besides, it is the CORRECT lyrics. Either way....when contemplating the importance of daily events....even the "big" ones.....this concept is important to remember. (AND, the animations on this video are amazing. He has even made the characters dance in time with the music!) Voyager/What Goes Up What goes up, must come down What must rise, must fall And what goes on in your life Is writing on the wall If all things must fall Why build a miracle at all If all things must pass Even a miracle won't last What goes up, must come down What must stand alone? And what goes on in your mind Is turning you to stone If all things must fall Why build a miracle at all? If all things must pass Even a pyramid won't last How can you be so sure? How do you know what the earth will endure? How can you be so sure That the wonders you've made In your life won't be seen By the millions who follow To be just a sign of defeat? What goes up, must come down What goes round, must come round What's been lost, must be found "In the end, only kindness matters."

Here's a whimsical question: Will vocaloids kill the musical star? If you are curious, here's some info about vocaloids. |

Well they say time loves a hero But only time will tell If he's real, he's a legend from heaven If he ain't he was sent here from hell Hear me well Seein' ain't always believin' Just make sure it's the truth that you're seein' Eyes sometimes lie They can be real deceivin' I got an Uncle in Puerto Rico Spends his days in the sun His nights in the casinos He left the States many years ago Took a fishin' boat to Puerto Rico Now my aunt, she is sad and lonely She'll never know that she drove him away As a coward, I admire his courageous ways Well they say time loves a hero But only time will tell If he's real, he's a legend from heaven If he ain't he was sent here from hell Some say my uncle, that he's a zero His life is as a shell, he left it back at Stateside I'd say he's doin' pretty well without his shell Bumming 'round the beaches of Puerto Rico The beauty of the sunrise and sunset To his friends he wish he could tell They're at home still runnin' for bells Better San Juan than that blue collar hell Well they say time loves a hero But only time will tell If he's real, he's a legend from heaven If he ain't he was sent here from hell Little Feat "In the end, only kindness matters."

Mine, too, allen! The version I posted IS the original live version, from the 1978 Waiting For Columbus live LP. If one doesn't know that album really well, one would not be able to tell that it was live, because the youtube person had to cut it off before it segued into the next song. It is my favorite Feat album! It is just killer. Every song on it is killer! MAN, do I ever have some good memories around that album!!! Though all the band were/are talented as hell, I miss Lowell so much! I've posted quite a few Feat songs here on this here thread! "In the end, only kindness matters."

Tower of Power horns in the background, just great! I don't think they ever reached that level again once Lowell passed. "Day at the Dog Races" is a special song too. A truly great band. |

I saw the "TOP" play twice; once with "War" in the mid-70s, and once with (don't laugh) Huey Lewis & The News! (That's the POWER of love! ) "In the end, only kindness matters."

Where you been, flux???? Man, that was TASTY! I have now listened to three of their songs! Egggscellent! I LOVE obscurities!!! OK....here's a good obscurity for ya'll! Saw this band in concert (as one of the opening acts) two different times in the early 70s. Mindblowing! This is the first side of their first album. The sound quality, and the stereo separation, is really excellent.....well, at least, it is on my speakers! (I have 4 speakers hooked up to my computer. Plus, I like to tweak the sound when listening, using windows "Multi-channel Sound Manager".) Listen to it all. Listen to it more than once. You will like it! Captain Beyond

It started with a low light, Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed And then they took my blood type It left a strange impression in my head. You know that I was hoping, That I could leave this star-crossed world behind But when they cut me open, I guess I changed my mind. And you know I might Have just flown too far from the floor this time Cause they're calling me by my name And the zipping white light beams Disregarding bombs and satellites That was the turning point That was one lonely night The storm maker says, "It ain´t so bad" The dream maker's gonna make you mad The spaceman says, "Everybody look down it´s all in your mind" Well now I´m back at home, and I´m looking forward to this life I live You know it´s gonna haunt me So hesitation to this life I give. You think you might cross over, you´re caught between the devil and the deep blue sea You better look it over, Before you make that leap And you know I´m fine, But I hear those voices at night sometimes- They justify my claim, And the public don´t dwell on my transmission Cause it wasn´t televised But, it was the turning point, Oh what a lonely night The storm maker says, "It ain´t so bad" The dream maker's gonna make you mad The spaceman says, "Everybody look down it´s all in your mind" The storm maker says, "It ain´t so bad" The dream maker's gonna make you mad; The spaceman says, "Everybody look down it´s all in your mind" My global position systems are vocally addressed They say the Nile used to run from East to West, They say the Nile used to run... From East to West. I´m fine But I hear those voices at night Sometime... The storm maker says, "It ain´t so bad" The dream maker's gonna make you mad The spaceman says, "Everybody look down it´s all in your mind" The star maker says, "It ain´t so bad" The dream maker's gonna make you mad; The spaceman says, "Everybody look down it´s all in your mind" It´s all in my mind it´s all in my mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et0R9p606bM "I watch how the moon sits in the sky on a dark night, shining with the light from the sun, but the sun doesnt give the light to the moon, assuming the moon's gonna owe it one..."

This song fits my mood tonight: Who Will Answer? Hallelujah! Hallelujah!, Hallelujah! From the canyons of the mind, We wander on and stumble blindly Through the often-tangled maze Of starless nights and sunless days, While asking for some kind of clue Or road to lead us to the truth, But who will answer? Side by side two people stand, Together vowing, hand-in-hand That love's imbedded in their hearts, But soon an empty feeling starts To overwhelm their hollow lives, And when they seek the hows and whys, Who will answer? On a strange and distant hill, A young man's lying very still. His arms will never hold his child, Because a bullet running wild Has struck him down. And now we cry, "Dear God, Oh, why, oh, why?" But who will answer? High upon a lonely ledge, a figure teeters near the edge, And jeering crowds collect below To egg him on with, "Go, man, go!" But who will ask what led him To his private day of doom, And who will answer? (Chorus) If the soul is darkened By a fear it cannot name, If the mind is baffled When the rules don't fit the game, Who will answer? Who will answer? Who will answer? Hallelujah! Hallelujah!, Hallelujah! In the rooms of dark and shades, The scent of sandalwood pervades. The colored thoughts in muddled heads Reclining in the rumpled beds Of unmade dreams that can't come true, And when we ask what we should do, Who... Who will answer? 'Neath the spreading mushroom tree, The world revolves in apathy As overhead, a row of specks Roars on, drowned out by discotheques, And if a secret button's pressed Because one man has been outguessed, Who will answer? Is our hope in walnut shells Worn 'round the neck with temple bells, Or deep within some cloistered walls Where hooded figures pray in halls? Or crumbled books on dusty shelves, Or in our stars, or in ourselves, Who will answer? (Repeat Chorus Below) If the soul is darkened By a fear it cannot name, If the mind is baffled When the rules don't fit the game, Who will answer? Who will answer? Who will answer? Hallelujah! Hallelujah!, Hallelujah! |

This one is for fortwynt. I rarely buy CDs anymore, but I plan to go out and by eminem's new CD, in your honor. BEAUTIFUL Lately I've been hard to reach I've been too long on my own Everybody has a private world Where they can be alone Are you calling me? Are you trying to get through? Are you reaching out for me? I'm reaching out for you I'm just so fin' depressed I just can seem to get out this slump If I could just get over this hump But I need something to pull me out this dump I took my bruises, took my lumps Fell down and I got right back up But I need that spark to get psyched back up In order for me to pick that mic back up I don't know how or why or when I ended up in this position I'm in I'm starting to feel distant again So I decided just to pick this pen Up and tried to make an attempt to vent But I just can't admit or come to grips With the fact that I may be done with rap I need a new outlet I know some s**t's so hard to swallow And I just can't sit back and wallow In my own sorrow, but I know one fact I'll be one tough act to follow One tough act to follow One tough act to follow Here today, gone tomorrow But you have to walk a thousand miles In my shoes, just to see What it's like, to be me I'll be you, let's trade shoes Just to see what I'd be like to Feel your pain, you feel mine Go inside each other's mind Just to see what we find Look at s**t through each other's eyes But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get f'd. Just stay true to you Don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get f'dd. Just stay true to you I think I'm starting to lose my sense of humor Everything is so tense and gloom I almost feel like I gotta check the temperature in the room just as soon as I walk in It's like all eyes on me So I try to avoid any eye contact Cause if I do that then it opens a door to conversation, like I want that I'm not looking for extra attention I just want to be just like you Blend in with the rest of the room Maybe just point me to the closest restroom I don't need f'ing man servant Tryin' to follow me around, and wipe my a** Laugh at every single joke I crack And half of them ain't even funny like Ahh Marshall, you're so funny man, you should be a comedian, g** d*** Unfortunately I am I just hide behind the tears of a clown So why don't you all sit down Listen to the tale I'm about to tell Hell, we don't have to trade our shoes And you don't have to walk no thousand miles In my shoes, just to see What it's like, to be me I'll be you, let's trade shoes Just to see what it'd be like to Feel your pain, you feel mine Go inside each other's mind Just to see what we find Look at s**t through each other's eyes But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get f'd Just stay true to you Don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get f'd Just stay true to you Nobody asked for life to deal us With these bulls**t hands they've delt We have to take these cards ourselves And flip them, don't expect no help Now I could have either just Sat on my a** and pissed and moaned But take this situation in which I'm placed in And get up and get my own I was never the type of kid To wait by the door and pack his bags Or sat on the porch and hoped and prayed For his dad to show up who never did I just wanted to fit in Every single place Every school I went I dreamed of being that cool kid Even if it meant acting stupid Aunt Edna always told me Keep making that face, it'll get stuck like that Meanwhile I'm just standing there Holding my tongue, trying to talk like "this" Till I stuck my tongue on the frozen stop sign pole at 8 years old I learned my lesson then, cause I wasn't tryin to impress my friends no more But I already told you my whole life story Not just based on my description Cause where you see it from where you're sitting It's probably 110% different I guess we would have to walk a mile In each other's shoes, at least What size you wear? I wear 10s Let's see if you can fit your feet In my shoes, just to see What it's like, to be me I'll be you, let's trade shoes Just to see what it'd be like to Feel your pain, you feel mine Go inside each other's minds Just to see what we find Look at s**t through each other's eyes But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get f'd Just stay true to you Don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful They can all get f'd Just stay true to you Lately I've been hard to reach I've been too long on my own Everybody has a private world Where they can be alone Are you calling me? Are you trying to get through? Are you reaching out for me I'm reaching out for you Yea... To my babies. Stay strong. Daddy will be home soon And to the rest of the world, God gave you them shoes to fit you So put 'em on and wear 'em And be yourself man, be proud of who you are Even if it sounds corny, Don't ever let no one tell you, you ain't beautiful God, that is an amazing song....... and I am so freakin' sad. I love my Papa. Although I have mentioned elsewhere as to Jon Anderson, with his transcendental romanticism and positive consciousness lyrics, being a mentor of mine, it is Papa that is my favorite musical artist of all time. Mr. Papathanassiou that is. Otherwise known as Vangelis, middle name aptly that of Odyssey. Back in the day, my musical collection was once comprised – (estimating here) – of hundreds or more of CDs. For a brief while, after the fall of '04 I had zip. By the summer of 2007, I had re-acquired much of what I had lost due to my stupid impulsiveness, and am still re-collecting, losing some, gaining others, thanks to used-record shops in and around my area, where even hard-to-find CDs can be found for a few bucks. My eclectic taste in music ranges in and out of many genres and eras, such as techno-tribal (e.g. Deep Forest), ethnic fusion, electro-acoustic (e.g. Tangerine Dream), World, Bossa Nova, back to Doo Wop and through to even 1930s' ditties. Save for country-pop, which is the devil's music in my opinion. Yet, throughout, it is Vangelis that reigns supreme over them all, weaving his spellbinding cast upon me high atop his podium surrounded by synthesizers. Although I love all his albums, the following are my favorites, my recommendations, my capsule reviews... 1983, CHINA ****/***** Your passport is required for this one. “Chung Kuo”: close your eyes, and end up in the East. “The Long March”: delicate and dainty piano piece. “The Tao Of Love”: true amorousness is wordless. And I love the little narration heard in “The Little Fete.” When this transporting album is over, you re-awaken back in your own country, saddened at having to return to the world of unromantic, extroverted, rough, Western garrulousness. (Me, I'm fragile.) 1988, DIRECT ****/***** Love the telepathic album cover, and check out those lips – remind you of any visitors? These atmospheric instrumentals flow into one another effortlessly. Become a musical galactic voyager by imagining yourself as one while attentively listening to these mesmerizing, otherworldly, shimmering soundscapes that sparkle and glitter, as you waft through a cosmic jewelry store full of emerald colored stars, multi-colored space dust and swirling appegio effects. “Elsewhere” is particularly ethereal. The last track is most noteworthy: alternately moody, haunting, and then, by the end, following a jazzy segue in which those on brass bend and sway, why, a sunrise!, and a ... “great morning, man.” 1990, THE CITY *****/***** “Dawn”: oooooh oooooh ... that lulling electronic trumpet; what a nocturne if there ever was one! “Is this city open? Got any morning papers yet? Too early. A sandwich? Thanks.” Classic line, delivered spot-on. “Morning Papers”: tip-toe across a celestial xylophone. “Side Streets”: get on your motorbike and hit the open benighted desert highway, wind in your hair, the neon-lit insular cityscape up ahead. “Good To See You”: that l-u-l-l-i-n-g, sultry electronic sax. By this time your motorbike has magically transformed itself into a baby crib on wheels. “Procession”: slowly it builds; enticing, climaxing, exploding into tiny slow-motion particles ... fading ... fading ... into DEJA-VU. The album is timeless; it never ages. 1995, VOICES *****/***** A coincidental title for a clairaudient listener such as I. Join in with the marching heavenly chorus of the first track! ... up! ... uplifting we go! ... soaring! ... humming and heping all the way, this paean! “Echoes”: sedative...sedative...sedative. “Ask The Mountains”: answer me this: doesn't Stina Nordenstam have one of the most whispery, angelical voices you've ever heard? “Messages”: a lateral back-and-forth-ing, tic-tocking, self-hypnotic-induced snooze atop a flute-shaped simulacrum home to an invisible choir. “Dream In An Open Place”: another lallation – dreamy, gentle, nostalgic-inducing; both a life's reflection and storybook closure. Makes the eyes moisten at times. 1996, OCEANIC *****/***** Breathe in the fresh-smelling sea spray and feel the softly cheek-splashing waves named Littoral, Alluvion, and Cat's-paw caressing your face as we set sea and receive a cymbal-clashing “Bon Voyage.” Entering coral reefs and pretty mermaid territory with the euphonious, sweeping “Sirens' Whispering.” These aquatic women with come-hither vocals. The water is warm, immaculately clean, and crystal azure. Listen for the octopus spirit playing the harp. “Fields Of Coral”: how one entering a ripple dissolve must feel. “Song Of The Seas”: perfect album capper: this balmy melody and allayer of stress is as relaxing as sunbathing at the beach. (Memo to mom who took one look at the album cover and thought it degrading to women: It's a film still taken from an Esther Williams movie, and you love Esther Williams! you silly. ) Oh, by the way, being this is a website mainly devoted to all things UFO, also recommended are Michael Stearns' Encounter & the even better Phil Thornton Alien Encounter albums. Or, feel like going on one cool musical space mission? Then check out Amin Bhatia's The Interstellar Suite. Track #5 is my personal favorite and it plays best with the volume turned up. For all you VRs out there, you might like the artwork found in Bhatia’s follow-up album, Virtuality. Bhatia also had provided some music for The Ray Bradbury Theater television series, my favorite television show of all time, alongside both the original – and its successor – The Outer Limits series. |

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk9boXu_4MM I'm holding on so tightly now My insides scream so loud They keep watching, watching me drown. How did it come to this? How did it come to this? How did I know it was you? It was a bad dream, asphyxiated, watch me bleed. The life support was cut, but now its too tight. They push and pull me, but they know they'll never win Throw it all away!! Throw it all away!! I keep on screaming, but theres really nothing left to say. So get away!! Just get away!! I keep on fighting, but i can't keep going on this way Can't keep going, can't keep going, on like this, they make me sick. And I get so sick of it. 'Cause they won't let me they won't let me breathe. Why can't they let me be? Why can't they let me be? Why don't I know what I am? I force this hate into my heart 'cause it's my only friend. My lips are sewn shut, I watch myself bleed. They push and pull me and it's killing me within. Throw it all away!! Throw it all away!! I keep on screaming, but theres really nothing left to say So get away!! Just get away!! I keep fighting, but i cant keep going on this way I can't keep going, can't keep going, on this way. I can't keep going, can't keep going, on this way. My heartbeat stumbles, and my back bone crumbles I feel, is it real? - as the lynch mob doubles. They want blood and they'll kill for it. Drain me and they'll kneel for it. Burn me at the stake now the devil made the deal for it. Guillotine dreams, yeah their guillotine gleams their blood of their enemies. Watch it while they sentence me. Sentence ceased, sentence deceased. Watch me bask in the glory of their holy disease. Throw it all away!! Throw it all away!! I keep on screaming, but theres really nothing left to say So get away!! Just get away!! I keep on fighting, but i cant keep going on this way I keep on running, I keep on running, I keep on running but i cant keep going on this way I keep on running, I keep on running, I keep on running but i cant keep going on this way!! By the rivers dark I wandered on. I lived my life in Babylon. And I did forget My holy song: And I had no strength In Babylon. By the rivers dark Where I could not see Who was waiting there Who was hunting me. And he cut my lip And he cut my heart. So I could not drink From the river dark. And he covered me, And I saw within, My lawless heart And my wedding ring, I did not know And I could not see Who was waiting there, Who was hunting me. By the rivers dark I panicked on. I belonged at last to Babylon. Then he struck my heart With a deadly force, And he said,This heart It is not yours. And he gave the wind My wedding ring; And he circled us With everything. By the rivers dark, In a wounded dawn, I live my life In Babylon. Though I take my song From a withered limb, Both song and tree, They sing for him. Be the truth unsaid And the blessing gone, If I forget My Babylon. I did not know And I could not see Who was waiting there, Who was hunting me. By the rivers dark, Where it all goes on; By the rivers dark In Babylon. "This gets me to a question that returns to my mind practically every day of my life: what are the visitors?" Whitley Strieber

Native this is one interpretation of the song you posted. I play this song often. This song is a retelling of Psalm 137. The Psalm is written by an Israelite mourning having been dragged into the Babylonian exile, and having lost Jerusalem. In the Psalm he and the other Israelites sit down by the rivers of Babylon and weep over the loss of Jerusalem and of the Temple, and the captors mock them asking for a holy song (presumably what would be sung in the Temple) and the writer pleads, "How can we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?" And then he says that if he forgets Jerusalem, his right hand should lose his skill (of playing the lyre) and his tongue should cleave to the roof of his mouth (so he can't sing anymore) and he has a fantasy about taking back Jerusalem and slamming the children of his captors against a rock. But it all ties in perfectly with this song. Instead, the singer is trapped in Babylon, and has been for some time. Long enough that he has "lived his life in Babylon" and has "forgot his holy song." This could be seen as losing faith or giving into sin. Then he is hunted by, I would presume, his conscience or God. His heart is struck and what is revealed is lawless (torahless) and his wedding ring, to Babylon. He runs from the realization, and truly becomes a citizen of Babylon by rejecting the Lord and his ways. But he is captured by God and his wedding ring is tossed away. I must create a system, or be enslaved by another man's. ~William Blake

I realize this song is about drug use....but it's also about deeper things.....and it has been an earworm in my mind ever since I heard the news about Ft. Hood. Of course, the Ft. Hood tragedy is just "another brick in the wall", or another "straw on the camel's back" or whatever cliche' you prefer. Gotta get off, gonna get Have to get off from this ride Gotta get hold, gonna get Need to get hold of my pride When did I get, where did I How was I caught in this game When will I know, where will I How will I think of my name When did I stop feeling sure, feeling safe And start wondering why, wondering why Is this a dream, am I here, where are you What's in back of the sky, why do we cry Gotta get off, gonna get Out of this merry-go-round Gotta get off, gonna get Need to get on where I'm bound When did I get, where did I Why am I lost as a lamb When will I know, where will I How will I learn who I am Is this a dream, am I here, where are you Tell me, when will I know, how will I know When will I know why? "In the end, only kindness matters."

I find that I am very often connected to number sequences. 11 is one of the ones I connect with most often. Didn't blood, sweat, and tears do a cover of an eric satie piece? |

(my new favorite song)} The paranoia is in bloom, the PR The transmissions will resume They’ll try to push drugs Keep us all dumbed down and hope that We will never see the truth around (So come on!) Another promise, another scene, another A package not to keep us trapped in greed With all the green belts wrapped around our minds And endless red tape to keep the truth confined (So come on!) Chorus They will not force us They will stop degrading us They will not control us We will be victorious Interchanging mind control Come let the revolution take its toll if you could Flick the switch and open your third eye, you’d see that We should never be afraid to die (So come on!) Rise up and take the power back, it’s time that The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that Their time is coming to an end We have to unify and watch our flag ascend Chorus They will not force us They will stop degrading us They will not control us We will be victorious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EtkuHzBVFM Sonny: Do you think we were all created for a purpose? Id like to think so. [looks at his hand] Denser alloy. My father gave it to me. I think he wanted me to kill you. -I Robot -2004
