A new reality show featuring a family determined to be completely self sufficient begins on Glenn Beck's channel. It is called Independence U.S.A. You can check it out at www.independenceusa.com or see more info at gbtv.com Truth has no agenda.

I didn't get that impression at all...preparedness? Yes. Self reliance, yes. Fear? No. Truth has no agenda.

I have no fear, ST...it is more about exiting teh rat race & having an earlier retirement. It has nothing to do with end of teh world survivial scenarios...wise up mane! "Don't take life to seriously;no one gets out alive."

Some of the comments and links within this forum are promoting Armageddon; not retirement Jimmy. Listen to this weeks William Henry program. Pretty much covers my concerns for just about a year regarding fear porn. Col North, appears to me anyways, hangs on every word that spews out of Glenn Beck's mouth. Although there are a few interesting website links, and provision suggestions within this forum; Off The Grid turned out to be a selling point to fearful people. This is what Off The Grid means to me: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3129447280039&set=a.2250163258488.214087 6.1380445550&type=1&theater (Message edited by manymansions2 on January 14, 2012) "Fear is the Thief of Dreams" - unknown author "If you have a golf ball sized consciousness, you experience a golf ball size reality." - David Lynch

There was an even better reality show on PBS called Homesteaders. 3 families lived like 1860's pioneers over ethe summer and into winter. A great show, I wish I could see again. If you roll it all into exit startegy, retirement or survival it's still a hard life to live. "Don't take life to seriously;no one gets out alive."

I do not get A&E but I did love PBS Homesteaders watching it from my comfy living room.. I thought perhaps if I did live back then I would probably come up with a healthy Hand and Face cream for the ladies |

Homesteaders, great show! I think too, you have to be prepared on a mental/spiritaul level. If you have no intuition when to go/leave, or whatever, no amount of $$$, or stuff will keep you alive... Here's off the grid (to varying degrees)for me- http://www.backwoodshome.com/ (excellent!) http://pioneerwomanatheart.blogspot.com/ http://krazoacres.blogspot.com/ A lot of great ideas! Done correctly, chickens are very quiet and clean. More than 3, would depend on the size of the lot I guess... Energy-Creations.com http://littlehomesteadinboise.blogspot.com/

anna, I have been to your blog, and am going back now. I am really enjoying it. I love your pantry in your spare room. I have also begun to make preparations for a spare pantry in my bedroom, in a large storage cabinet very similar in size to this one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ameriwood-Industries-Storage-Pantry-in-Oak/15109903 I have had the cabinet (which was my mothers) for almost 20 years, and it's a good thing, based on what they sell for now. There's no way I would spend that much for one. I am slowly adding to my stock for it, but I only recently began. I'm having to do a little at a time, due to finances. I am slowly culling down the various "stuff" I have in closets, so that I can free up a full-sized closet to use for a pantry. Anyway, thanks again for posting about your blog. Looks like I can learn a lot from you! "In the end, only kindness matters."

OOPS, anna, I forgot to tell you that I lived in Ontario, Oregon for a while back in the early 1970s. "In the end, only kindness matters."

Hey thanks for visiting my blog! I have bought a little over time too, and it does add up! You just do what you can, when you can... and it all helps. I posted some new info/questions on the spring food preservation class I'm taking. Helpful stuff... http://energy-creations.blogspot.com/ http://littlehomesteadinboise.blogspot.com/
